Kara Aden

Kara joined the Ohio Reading Corps initially as an AmeriCorps member during its first service year in 2012-2013.  Service has always been important to Kara and AmeriCorps was something she had looked into throughout her college years and was excited to be able to do afterwards.  She previously served as a member in two other programs in Ohio; one year with Raccoon Creek Partnership in Athens and another year with National Church Residences in Columbus.  Working with at-risk youth and community needs was a common theme.  After completing her service term she was hired on as Assistant Coordinator for ORC in Central Ohio.

Kara and her husband Doug welcomed their first child, Forest, in October of 2014.  Wanting to stay at home with Forest, Kara was very excited to transition to the Volunteer and Events Coordinator position with ORC.  She greatly enjoys getting to plan a variety of meaningful service projects, getting to know members, and hearing about their experiences throughout their service year.  In her spare time Kara enjoys experimenting with new recipes (primarily Asian and African dishes), reading, yoga, and checking out local restaurants and farmers markets.
